Council Decision (CFSP) 2024/2553 of 4 April 2024 on the signing and conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Mozambique on the status of the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique)

Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2024/2553 1.10.2024 COUNCIL DECISION (CFSP) 2024/2553 of 4 April 2024 on the signing and conclusion of the Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Mozambique on the status of the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) THE COUNCIL OF THE EUROPEAN UNION, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 37 thereof, in conjunction with Article 218(5) and

(6) of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, Having regard to the proposal from the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy,

Whereas:

(1) On 12 July 2021, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2021/1143 (1) establishing a European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique).

(2) On 15 October 2021, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2021/1818 (2) launching EUTM Mozambique.

(3) On 4 November 2021, the Council authorised the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to open negotiations with the Republic of Mozambique with a view to the conclusion of an Agreement on the status of EUTM Mozambique.

(4) An agreement has been negotiated between the Union and the Republic of Mozambique on the basis of the authorisation granted by the Council on 4 November 2021.

(5) The Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Mozambique on the status of the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) should be approved on behalf of the Union,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1 The Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Mozambique on the status of the European Union Military Training Mission in Mozambique (EUTM Mozambique) (the ‘Agreement’) is hereby approved on behalf of the Union (3).

Article 2 The President of the Council is hereby authorised to designate the person(s) empowered to sign the Agreement in order to bind the Union.

Article 3 This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption.
