Political and Security Committee Decision (CFSP) 2026/2033 of 27 August 2026 on the appointment of the Combined Arms Training Commander for the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) and repealing Decision (CFSP) 2023/2206 (EUMAM Ukraine/1/2026)

Official Journal EN of the European Union L series 2026/2033 8.9.2026 POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE DECISION (CFSP) 2026/2033 of 27 August 2026 on the appointment of the Combined Arms Training Commander for the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) and repealing Decision (CFSP) 2023/2206 (EUMAM Ukraine/1/2026) THE POLITICAL AND SECURITY COMMITTEE, Having regard to the Treaty on European Union, and in particular Article 38 thereof, Having regard to Council Decision (CFSP) 2022/1968 of 17 October 2022 on a European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine)(1), and in particular Article 5(1) thereof,

Whereas:

(1) On 17 October 2022, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2022/1968, which established the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine).

(2) Pursuant to Article 5(1) of Decision (CFSP) 2022/1968, the Council authorised the Political and Security Committee

(PSC) to take decisions on the appointment of the EU Commanders for EUMAM Ukraine, including the Combined Arms Training Commander.

(3) On 12 October 2023, the PSC adopted Decision (CFSP) 2023/2206(2), appointing Brigadier General Piotr FAJKOWSKI as the Combined Arms Training Commander from 29 September 2023.

(4) On 8 July 2026, the Polish authorities proposed the appointment of Brigadier General Sławomir LIDWA to succeed Brigadier General Piotr FAJKOWSKI as the Combined Arms Training Commander (the ‘proposed appointment’).

(5) On 13 July 2026, the EU Mission Commander of EUMAM Ukraine supported the proposed appointment.

(6) On 14 July 2026, the EU Military Committee supported the proposed appointment and agreed that Brigadier General Sławomir LIDWA be appointed as the Combined Arms Training Commander as from 15 July 2026.

(7) A decision on the appointment of Brigadier General Sławomir LIDWA as the Combined Arms Training Commander for EUMAM Ukraine should be taken.

(8) Decision (CFSP) 2023/2206 should be repealed,

HAS ADOPTED THIS DECISION:

Article 1 Brigadier General Sławomir LIDWA is appointed as the Combined Arms Training Commander for the European Union Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine) as from 15 July 2026.

Article 2 Decision (CFSP) 2023/2206 is hereby repealed.

It shall apply from 15 July 2026.
