Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) requires manufacturers and importers of chemical substances in quantities of one tonne or more annually to register them with the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), demonstrating safe usage and substituting Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).

What is the proposed EU-wide PFAS universal restriction?

Five Member States (Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden) have submitted the broadest restriction proposal in REACH history, covering approximately 10,000 PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) across all non-essential uses. If adopted, it would restrict PFAS in consumer products, industrial processes, firefighting foams, and food contact materials, with sector-specific transition periods of up to 12 years.

How does the revised CLP Regulation introduce new hazard classes?

Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707 amends the CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 by adding four new hazard classes: endocrine disruptors for human health (ED HH), endocrine disruptors for the environment (ED ENV), persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic substances (PBT/vPvB), and persistent, mobile, and toxic substances (PMT/vPvM). Manufacturers must self-classify and label substances under the new classes from May 2025.
