Prime Minister's Office English Translation of Prime Minister’s Press Statement during Joint Press Statement with the Prime Minister of Poland
Posted On: 22 OCT 2026 2:38PM by PIB Delhi Your Excellency, Mr. Prime Minister, Delegates from both countries, Friends from media, Namaskar! It gives me great pleasure to extend a warm welcome to the Prime Minister of Poland in India.
During my visit to Poland in 2024, he extended a warm welcome to me and my delegation.
During that visit, we elevated our relations to a Strategic Partnership.
Building on this strong foundation, our partnership has gained fresh momentum over the past two years. And in today’s meeting with the Prime Minister, we took several important decisions to further strengthen our Strategic Partnership.
Friends, The friendship between India and Poland is rooted not only in diplomatic ties, but also in our shared heritage of humanity and compassion.
During the Second World War, the royal families of Jamnagar and Kolhapur provided refuge in India to thousands of Polish children and families. Even today, the people of Poland remember the Jam Saheb with great respect as “Dobry Maharaja,” meaning “Good Maharaja.” In 2022, Poland carried forward this same spirit of humanity by helping ensure the safe return of our students from Ukraine. I am pleased that, through the Jam Saheb Youth Exchange Programme, young people from Poland are visiting India and carrying our historic friendship forward to the next generation.
Friends,Today, the world is going through a period of uncertainty and change. Even in these challenging times, both India and Poland are emerging as important centres of growth, technology, and innovation.
Last year, Poland’s GDP crossed the historic milestone of one trillion dollars. I warmly congratulate Prime Minister on this achievement. Meanwhile, India also recorded an impressive growth rate of 7.8% in the last quarter.
Our growing economic strength has created new opportunities for the India-Poland partnership. The India-European Union Free Trade Agreement has further expanded these opportunities. Once the agreement comes into effect, it will open up new opportunities for India to export machinery, chemicals, plastics, and engineering goods to Poland. At the same time, we will seek new investments from Poland in sectors such as railways and mobility, advanced manufacturing, food processing, and biotechnology.
I am pleased that the Hon’ble Prime Minister has come to India with a large business delegation. We are confident that companies from both countries will work together to develop trusted supply chains for the world and achieve our shared goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.
Friends, Today, we agreed to deepen our cooperation in defence, space, and nuclear energy. In all these strategic sectors, we invite Polish companies to partner with India in co-development and co-production.
We will also develop new partnerships in critical minerals and coal gasification, bringing together Polish expertise.
Our ties in IT and cybersecurity are already strong, with several Indian IT companies operating in Poland. Building on this cooperation, we have agreed to establish an India- Poland Startup Bridge.
These initiatives will give fresh momentum to our cooperation in AI, cybersecurity, fintech, and other emerging technologies, while creating new opportunities for the youth of both countries.
Friends, Cultural and people-to-people ties are the greatest strength of our relationship. We are delighted that Poland has a rich tradition of Sanskrit studies and Indology.
We have established an Indian Studies Chair in the city of Kraków. Today, we also decided to further strengthen our cooperation in culture and education, as well as in sports and tourism.
Friends, Today, we also held detailed discussions on regional and global developments. Both India and Poland believe in democratic values and the rule of law. We believe that reforms are necessary to make global governance institutions stronger and more effective.
Whether in Ukraine or West Asia, India will continue to support every meaningful effort towards peaceYour Excellency, Our shared history is deeply rooted in humanity and compassion, while our shared future holds immense possibilities for cooperation in innovation and technology.
I am confident that your visit will give new momentum to the India-Poland Strategic Partnership and take it to new heights. Once again, I extend a warm welcome to you and your delegation.
Thank you very much.
