Procurement of agricultural produce depends on several factors, including cropping pattern, production, demand and supply, marketable surplus, prevailing domestic and international market prices etc. The Department of Food and Public distribution undertakes procurement of wheat and paddy for the Central Pool to meet the requirements of Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) and Other Welfare Schemes (OWS), maintain adequate buffer stocks and extend the benefits of Minimum Support Price operations to the farmers.
The estimates for procurement of wheat and paddy are finalized by the Department in consultation with the respective State Governments before the commencement of each marketing season. Further, as per the Guidelines of the Pradhan Mantri Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA), procurement of notified pulses, oilseeds and copra on the request of the State Government under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) is limited to up to 25% of the production of the respective crop in a State.Annexure The details of quantity procured, MSP notified and MSP Value paid to farmers I.
