Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposal from the State Government of Tamil Nadu for establishing Olympic Academies under the Khelo India Scheme (KIS) or any other Central programme and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the present status of appraisal and approval of such proposals, including financial assistance sought;
(c) whether the Government has prescribed any eligibility criteria or guidelines for extending Central assistance for establishing sports academies in the said States and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the measures taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to strengthen grassroot sports infrastructure and athlete development in aspirational and rural districts, including in Tamil Nadu? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS [ DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA ]
(a) No such proposal has been received in this Ministry.
(b) Does not arise.
(c) and (d) โSportsโ being a State subject, the responsibility for development of sports, including establishing sports academies, strengthening grassroot sports infrastructure and athlete development, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments.
Page 1 of 2The Union Government supplements these efforts by bridging the critical gaps. The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports implements the following schemes to strengthen sports development in the country, including in
the State of Tamil Nadu: i. Khelo India โ National Programme for Development of Sports; ii. Assistance to National Sports Federations (NSFs); iii. Cash Incentives to Medal Winners in International Sports Events and their Coaches;
iv. National Sports Awards; v. Pension to Meritorious Sportspersons; vi. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Program for Sportspersons; vii. National Sports Development Fund; viii. Running Sports Training Centres through Sports Authority of India (SAI); and ix. National Centre for Sports Science and Research (NCSSR).

The details of various sports facilities under the Khelo India Scheme, such as Sports Infrastructure, Khelo India Centres (KIC), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCE) and Khelo India Accredited Academies (KIAA) along with Khelo India Athletes (KIA) and coaches, across the country, including in the State of Tamil Nadu, are available in the public domain on the dashboard of the Ministry at
