Will the Minister of COMMUNICATIONS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of the financial allocations made for the modernization of postal infrastructure under the IT Modernization Project 2.0 during 2025-26 in the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha Constituency;
(b) the total number of post offices in the East Godavari district that have been equipped with advanced digital devices for delivering core banking and e-commerce services;
(c) the total volume of direct benefit transfers and digital payments processed through the India Post Payments Bank network in Rajahmundry during the last one year;
(d) whether the Government has noticed structural deficiencies in the parcel handling capacity of head post offices operating within the Rajahmundry region; and
(e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to establish automated parcel sorting hubs in Rajahmundry to support rural e-commerce artisans? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (DR. PEMMASANI CHANDRA SEKHAR)
(a) Under the IT Modernization Project 2.0, during 2025-2026, an expenditure of Rs. 78,94,527/- has been incurred towards procurement of computers, printers and other peripherals, in the Rajahmundry Lok Sabha Constituency, comprising Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Tadepalligudem Divisions.
(b) A total of 258 Post Offices, in the East Godavari district, comprising Rajahmundry, Kakinada and Tadepalligudem Divisions, have been provided with requisite IT devices. This includes 54 Departmental Post Offices equipped with computers, printers, scanners, biometric devices, etc. and 204 Branch Post Offices provided with mobiles and Biometric devices to facilitate delivery of postal, e-commerce, banking, insurance and other citizen centric services.
(c) During the Financial Year 2025-26, through India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) network, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) amounting to Rs. 193.41 crore has been disbursed to 1.61 lakh beneficiaries. Further, a total value of Rs. 221.86 crore has been processed through 5.12 lakh digital transactions.
(d) No structural deficiency has been noticed in the parcel handling capacity of Head Post Offices operating within Rajahmundry Region.
(e) Considering the present volume of parcels at Rajahmundry Parcel Hub, there is no proposal at present for its automation. The existing infrastructure at Rajahmundry Parcel Hub, with its standard parcel processing arrangements, is adequate to manage current parcel volumes, including e-commerce parcels, efficiently.
