Parliament Question: Projects under AMRUT 2.0 in Bihar

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3053 TO BE ANSWERED ON AUGUST 06, 2026 PROJECTS UNDER AMRUT 2.0 IN BIHAR NO. 3053 SHRI GOPAL JEE THAKUR:

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) the details of the projects sanctioned under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 in Bihar, particularly for Darbhanga Municipal Corporation;

(b) the total number of projects related to water supply, sewerage and drainage in Darbhanga that are completed, under construction and proposed respectively;

(c) the details of the funds sanctioned and utilised so far for these projects; and

(d) whether any proposal is under consideration of the Government to sanction additional projects to strengthen the drinking water, sewerage and drainage systems in Darbhanga and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU)

(a): Under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation 2.0 (AMRUT 2.0), States/ Union Territories (UTs) are empowered to select, appraise, prioritize and implement projects. The State of Bihar has taken up 62 projects with approved cost of ₹8167.78 crore (including operation and maintenance cost) under AMRUT 2.0, which include 30 water supply project worth ₹4648.37 crore, 11 sewerage and septage management project with approved cost of ₹3445.08 crore and 03 water body rejuvenation projects worth ₹4.06 crore and 18 parks projects with approved cost of ₹70.26 crore. (b): In Darbhanga district, the State has taken up one water supply project at an approved cost of ₹186.16 crore under AMRUT 2.0. As updated by the State on AMRUT 2.0 portal, Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) has been issued for the project.

(c): Central share of funds under AMRUT 2.0 is released/ sanctioned State-wise and not project-wise. The States further release funds to the Urban Local Bodies/ Implementing Agencies as per progress of the projects. Under AMRUT 2.0, total central share of ₹441.77 crore has been released/ sanctioned to the State of Bihar for the projects including the projects in Darbhanga of which the State has utilised/ expenditure incurred of ₹37.10 crore till 09.07.2026.

(d): There is no proposal of the State including projects for Darbhanga pending for approval at the central level under AMRUT 2.0. *****
