Will the Minister of STEEL be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has undertaken any skill development initiatives for workers engaged in steel processing industries in Punjab and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of training programmes conducted and the number of beneficiaries trained and employed during the last two years;
(c) whether industry-specific skill centres are proposed in Punjab and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether any financial assistance has been sanctioned in this regard and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STEEL (SHRI H.D. KUMARASWAMY)

(a)to(d): Yes, Sir. The Government has undertaken skill development initiatives in Punjab through the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST), under the aegis of Ministry of Steel at Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab. NISST is an industry-oriented skill development and technology support centre for the steel sector and conducts skill development programmes for personnel engaged in the steel industry. Since Financial Year 2024-25, NISST has trained around 300 trainees in specialised areas such as Industrial Safety, Quality Improvement, Energy Efficiency, Scrap Segregation and Non- Destructive Testing (NDT).
Additionally, Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Ministry of Steel undertake skill development initiatives through apprenticeship training, industry-oriented modules, and partnerships with Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), based on the operational requirements and locations of their respective plants across the country.
NISST has been established in Punjab in the year 1987 to give steel sector specific trainings. The funding for trainings and operations is given by the Ministry of Steel. ******
