STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2026 No. 675 ENERGY, NORTHERN IRELAND The Energy Prices Act 2022 (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2026 Made - - - - 19th June 2026 Coming into force - - 20th June 2026 The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 7(3) of Schedule 5 to the Energy Prices Act 2022(1).
In accordance with section 26(4) of, and paragraph 7(4) of Schedule 5 to that Act, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
Citation, commencement and extent
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Energy Prices Act 2022 (Amendment) (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2026 and come into force on the day after the day on which they are made.
(2) These Regulations extend to Northern Ireland only.
Amendment to the period in paragraph 7(1)(a) of Schedule 5 to the Energy Prices Act 2022
2. In paragraph 7(1)(a) of Schedule 5 to the Energy Prices Act 2022(2) (the period in which certain powers in respect of Northern Ireland may be exercised) for “26 months” substitute “6 years”.

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations) Paragraph 7(1)(a) of Schedule 5 to the Energy Prices Act 2022 (c. 44) provides that certain powers in that Act may only be exercised in the first period of 26 months to end after that Act was passed during the whole of which both the First Minister and deputy First Minister in Northern Ireland have held office.
Regulation 2 substitutes the period of 26 months in paragraph 7(1)(a) for a period of 6 years.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
