STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2026 No. 979 ENERGY The Energy Prices Act 2022 (Extension of Time Limit) (No. 2) Regulations 2026 Made - - - - 4th September 2026 Coming into force - - 24th October 2026 The Secretary of State makes these Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by paragraph 9(1) of Schedule 6 to the Energy Prices Act 2022(1).
In accordance with section 26(4) of, and paragraph 9(3) of Schedule 6 to, that Act, a draft of this instrument was laid before Parliament and approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.
Citation, commencement and extent
1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Energy Prices Act 2022 (Extension of Time Limit) (No. 2) Regulations 2026 and come into force on 24th October 2026.
(2) These Regulations extend to England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Extension of the period in paragraph 7(1) of Schedule 6 to the Energy Prices Act 2022 2 The period referred to in paragraph 7(1) of Schedule 6 to the Energy Prices Act 2022(2)—
(a) does not end on 25th October 2026, and
(b) instead ends on 25th April 2027.

(2) Paragraph 7(1) of Schedule 6 refers to a period of three years and six months beginning with the day on which the Energy Prices Act 2022 was passed. EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Regulations)
Section 13 of the Energy Prices Act 2022 (c. 44) (“the Act”) confers powers on the Secretary of State to provide support for meeting energy costs.
Paragraph 7(1) of Schedule 6 to the Act provides that these powers cease to be exercisable at the end of the period of three years and six months beginning with the day on which the Act was passed (the “period”). The period was initially due to end on 25th April 2026.
Paragraph 9(2) of Schedule 6 to the Act provides that the period may only be extended by six months at a time.
The Energy Prices Act 2022 (Extension of Time Limit) Regulations 2026 (S.I. 2026/452) extended the period by six months, so that it was due to end on 25th October 2026.
Regulation 2 extends the period by a further six months, so that it is due to end on 25th April 2027.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private, voluntary or public sector is foreseen.
