STATUTORY INSTRUMENTS 2026 No. 998 CLIMATE CHANGE The Response to the Committee on Climate Change Report (Extension of Period) Order 2026 Made - - - - 7th September 2026 Laid before Parliament 10th September 2026 Coming into force - - 14th October 2026 The Secretary of State makes this Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 37(5) and 90(3)(a) of the Climate Change Act 2008(1).
Citation, commencement and extent
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Response to the Committee on Climate Change Report (Extension of Period) Order 2026.
(2) This Order comes into force on 14th October 2026.
(3) This Order extends to the United Kingdom.
Extension of the period for the response to the Committee on Climate Change’s 2026 report
2.—(1) The Secretary of State’s response under section 37 of the Climate Change Act 2008 to the Committee’s(2) 2026 report must be laid before Parliament not later than 17th December 2026.
(2) In this article, the “Committee’s 2026 report” means the report of the Committee under
section 36 of the Climate Change Act 2008 laid before Parliament on 24th June 2026(3).

EXPLANATORY NOTE (This note is not part of the Order) Under section 37 of the Climate Change Act 2008 (c. 27) (“the Act”) the Secretary of State must lay before Parliament a response to the points raised by the report of the Committee on Climate Change (the “Committee”) under section 36 of the Act. This Order extends the period within which the Secretary of State must lay the response to the Committee’s 2026 report, changing the final day of that period from 15th October 2026 to 17th December 2026.
A full impact assessment has not been produced for this instrument as no, or no significant, impact on the private or voluntary sectors is foreseen.
