Ministry of Finance Aarohan–2026 Batch-II concludes with focus on reinforcing Vision of prudent and Taxpayer- Centric Officers

Posted On: 07 SEP 2026 9:19PM by PIB Mumbai :Mumbai, 07 September 2026 The valediction ceremony of Aarohan–2026, Batch-II, the Orientation Course for newly promoted Income Tax Officers of the Mumbai and Pune regions, was held at Karjat today, marking the successful completion of a comprehensive 40-working-day training programme aimed at strengthening professional competence, leadership capabilities and taxpayer-centric approaches to tax administration.

The programme commenced with research-based project presentations by the participants on contemporary issues relating to tax administration and governance. The presentations reflected the participants’ engagement with emerging challenges and policy issues in taxation and covered themes including Gig Economy Taxation; Tax and Viksit Bharat @2047 – The Role of Income Tax Department in the Nation’s Path to a Developed Economy; How Taxation is Used to Fight Recession and Inflation?;

Voluntary Compliance: Nudging vs. Force – Which is More Effective for Taxpayer Compliance?; Why Singapore Leads in Tax Reforms & Ease of Doing Business and Lessons for India?; and The Expanding Role of Annual Information Statement (AIS) in Tax Compliance.The valedictory programme commenced with an address by Shri Navneet Manohar, Principal Additional Director General, NADT-RC, Mumbai. He highlighted the hallmarks of a PRUDENT Karmayogi and emphasised the pivotal role of NADT-RC, Mumbai in shaping officers who embody these core values.

Shri Manohar urged the participants to translate the knowledge, skills and insights acquired during the training into effective action in their professional responsibilities as Income Tax Officers. He emphasised the importance of discharging their duties in an efficient, effective and taxpayer-centric manner.

The ceremony was graced by Shri N. C. Swain, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Surat, as the Chief Guest. Congratulating the participants on their promotion to the cadre of Income Tax Officers and on successfully completing the programme, Shri Swain emphasised that effective tax administration requires more than technical competence and professionalism. He underlined the importance of empathy, sensitivity and a citizen-centric approach in dealing with taxpayers.Shri Swain also urged the newly promoted officers to uphold the highest standards of integrity, fairness and accountability while discharging their responsibilities.

The presentations were evaluated by a jury comprising senior officers of the Department — Shri Deepak Tiwari, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Delhi-10, New Delhi; Smt. Naina S. Kapil, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Panjim; and Smt. Amrita Misra, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-19, Mumbai.

Spread over 40 working days, Aarohan–2026, Batch-II provided comprehensive exposure to Income Tax Law, the New Income Tax Act, 2025, accountancy, investigation of accounts, tax administration, business processes, leadership and professional skills. The batch comprised 35 officers.

The successful completion of the programme reflects the Department’s commitment to developing competent, future-ready and taxpayer-centric officers equipped to meet the evolving challenges of tax administration and contribute meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
