NOTIFICATION In exercise of the powers conferred by section 63 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963 (Karnataka Act No. 4 of 1964) (hereinafter referred to as the said Act) the Government of Karnataka hereby declares that with effect from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette, the officers specified in column (2), shall be specially empowered to exercise the powers under sections 55 and 56 of the said Act, within the jurisdiction specified in column (3) of the table, subject to the provisions of the said Act.

2) The officers specified in column (2) of the table shall exercise the powers under sections 55 and 56 in accordance with the circumstances, conditions and procedure specified under the said Act, subject to provisions of section 58 of the said Act.

3) The officers specially empowered under this Notification may, in like circumstances and in like manner, exercise the powers under sections 55 and 56, including the power to direct a person to remove himself from and not to enter or return to any local area, district or part thereof, whether contiguous thereto or not, as provided under section 63 of the Act.

4) The provisions of sections 57, 58, 59, 60, 61 and 62 of the said Act shall apply to the exercise of powers under section 63, as provided in sub-section (2) of section 63 of the said Act.

5) Nothing in this Notification shall authorise the District Magistrate to exercise, within an area for which a Commissioner of Police has been appointed and empowered under the said Act, the same power or function which is exercisable by the Commissioner of Police.
