Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Modernization of Dairy Sector and Growth in Milk Production NPDD and AHIDF Accelerate Modernisation and Capacity Building in Dairy Sector प्रव तथ: 12 AUG 2026 3:08PM by PIB Delhi The Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, stated that the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD), Government of India, is implementing various schemes and programmes to complement and supplement the efforts of State Governments in strengthening, modernising and promoting the dairy sector. These initiatives are aimed at enhancing milk production and productivity, improving dairy infrastructure and value-chain development, strengthening milk processing and marketing facilities, and improving the overall efficiency and sustainability of the dairy sector.

National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD): Under NPDD, 50% grant assistance is provided for strengthening milk procurement, chilling, and quality assurance infrastructure to increase the share of organized milk procurement in the country. Further, 75% Central Grant assistance is provided for establishing modern milk procurement, dairy processing, value addition, and cold chain infrastructure, and 70% Central Grant assistance is extended for setting up quality assurance infrastructure, only in hilly areas and the North Eastern Region (NER).

Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF): Under AHIDF 3% interest subvention is provided to eligible beneficiaries to establish modern dairy processing, value addition, and cold chain infrastructure projects in both the cooperative and private sectors.

As of June 2026, 36,611 new Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS) have been organised and 34,557 DCS strengthened at the village level with financial assistance under National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD), Further, about 168 lakh litres per day (LLPD) of milk chilling capacity has been created, and 76,748 quality testing devices distributed. Under Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF), projects with a total milk processing and value-addition capacity of 418 LLPD have been approved in both cooperative and private sectors.

These efforts provide an organized market for milk producers and help improve their income.
