Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to

state:

(a) whether it is a fact that India is sending a contingent of 125 to 130 athletes and around 60 to 65 supporting staff members to the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether it is also a fact that the hosting country Glasgow is scaled-down event to reduce costs by excluding several sports including wrestling, shooting and badminton and if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the total budget allocated and utilised by the Union Government for the Indian contingent to participate in 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA]

(a) Yes, Sir. India has sent a contingent to the Commonwealth Games 2026 being held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 23rd July, 2026 to 2nd August, 2026. Indian contingent comprises of 125 athletes/ sportspersons (77 male and 48 female), along with 50 team officials and 14 contingent staff.

(b) The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) is the organization responsible for the direction and control of the Page 1 of 2Commonwealth Games, the Commonwealth Sport movement, and related events. Originally, the 2026 Commonwealth Games were to be hosted by Victoria, Australia, but after the original host withdrew, Glasgow, Scotland was selected as the replacement host. For Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026, only 10 sports have been

selected by the host country in consultation with CGF: Athletics and Para Athletics, Swimming and Para Swimming, Artistic Gymnastics, Track Cycling and Para Track Cycling, Netball, Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting, Boxing, Judo, Bowls and Para Bowls, and 3x3 Basketball and 3x3 Wheelchair Basketball.

(c) The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is providing financial assistance towards training of athletes and their participation in international competitions in India and abroad, including Asian, Commonwealth and Olympics, which includes wholesome nutritious diet, food supplements, equipment support, state-of-the-art infrastructure, lodging, travelling facilities, services of reputed Indian and Foreign Coaches/supporting staff, scientific & medical support, sports kit, etc. through the Scheme of Assistance to NSFs

(ANSF). The details of budget allocated and expenditure incurred in ANSF Scheme in the last financial year and the current financial year

are as under:
