Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has made a state wise assessment of the progress of conservation, renovation and development works of monuments and cultural heritage sites protected under the National Culture Fund and the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 from the year 2023-24 till date;
(b) If so, the details thereof;
(c) Whether the Government has reviewed visitor facilities, digital documentation, conservation works and heritage promotion programmes at monuments under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India;
(d) If so, the major findings thereof;
(e) Whether the government is considering to approving additional central initiatives or projects to promote the conservation of lesser known cultural and archaeological heritage of the country and for the conservation and development of sites associated with the historical and cultural heritage of Bihar, especially the Seemanchal region; and
(f) If so, the details thereof;
ANSWER THE MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT)
(a) Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has made a state wise assessment of the progress of & conservation, renovation and development works of monuments and cultural heritage sites
(b) protected by the ASI.
Conservation and maintenance of these monuments is a regular process and is taken up as per the need of monument and availability of resources. Regular Inspections are carried out by the Officers of ASI for assessing the conservation and renovation works of monuments and cultural heritage sites.
ASI takes up conservation and maintenance works of protected monuments every year. Details of allocation and expenditure made on the conservation of protected monument from 2023-24 to 05.08.2026 are attached at Annexure-A.
Monuments and heritage sites are not protected under the National Culture Fund (NCF). NCF only provides financial assistance for conservation, renovation and development works of some monuments and cultural heritage sites protected by the ASI. The list of works taken up at ASI protected monuments under the NCF during the last three years is placed at Annexure-B.(c) ASI regularly reviews the visitor facilities, digital documentation, conservation works and & heritage promotion programmes at monuments under its jurisdiction across the country.
(d) The details of visitor facilities available at ASI monuments and sites are placed at the Annexure-C.
Besides, ASI, through its field offices, organizes community-driven and people-centric heritage promotion programmes on protected monuments/sites, such as walkthroughs, talks, drawing and painting competitions for school and college students, photo exhibitions for visitors, and consultative meetings with locals and community stakeholders on various occasions such as World Heritage Day, World Tourism Day, Museum Day, International Womenโs Day, World Heritage Week and International Day of Yoga among others, and at the time of various other national celebrations as and when entrusted with, to raise awareness about the need for sensitization toward the protection of the country's heritage.
(e) ASI undertakes conservation and maintenance of all centrally protected monuments including & lesser-known monuments as per requirement and availability of resources.
(f) The details of approved Conservation works in respect of ASI protected monuments in the state of Bihar, including one monument located in Seemanchal region namely Kanhaiya Ji ka Mandir at Dist.
