Parliament Question: Declaration of Mangarh Dham as National Monument in Rajasthan

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF CULTURE LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2347 ANSWERED ON 03.08.2026 DECLARATION OF MANGARH DHAM AS NATIONAL MONUMENT IN RAJASTHAN †2347. SHRI HANUMAN BENIWAL:

Will the Minister of CULTURE be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has taken cognizance of the fact that Mangarh Dham in Rajasthan holds a highly significant place in the history of tribal freedom struggle of the country and there has been a long-standing demand to declare it as a national monument;

(b) whether the Government is contemplating any proposal or planning to declare Mangarh Dham as a National Monument;

(c) if so, the current status and prescribed time-limit thereof;

(d) if not, the reasons therefor; and

(e) whether the Government is contemplating to take any concrete decision to declare this historical site associated with the tribal freedom movement of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and other States as a national monument? (a)to Reference/representations to declare Mangarh Dham as national monument under the

(d) Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958 (AMASR Act,1958) were received in the past.

Based on the site inspection, it has been observed that the site has undergone substantial modern development and construction. Owing to these extensive modern interventions, the site does not retain the archaeological characteristics, authenticity and integrity required for declaration as a monument of national importance under the provisions of the AMASR Act, 1958.

(e) At present no such proposal is under consideration. *****
