Will the Minister of TEXTILES वस्त्र मंत्री

be pleased to state :

(a) whether the Government had approved a Mega Handloom Cluster for Tiruchirappalli under the Mega Handloom Cluster Development Programme during 2015–16 and if so, the details thereof;

(b) the details of present status of implementation of the Mega Handloom Cluster, including the funds released, works completed, ongoing activities and the number of handloom weavers benefited so far;

(c) whether the implementation of the project has been delayed and if so, the reasons therefor; and

(d) whether the Government proposes to release the remaining funds and complete the pending infrastructure and livelihood support components under the project, besides strengthening the handloom sector in Tiruchirappalli through modernisation, market linkage, skill development and common facility centres and if so, the details thereof? उत्तर ANSWER वस्त्र राज् य मंत्री(श्री पबित्र मार्घरे रटा) THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR TEXTILES (SHRI PABITRA MARGHERITA)

(a) to (d): Yes, the Government of India had approved a Mega Handloom cluster for Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) during 2015-16 under Mega Cluster Development Programme, a component of National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP), a scheme under implementation through Office of Development Commissioner (Handlooms), Ministry of Textiles all across the country for holistic development of the handloom sector.

Trichy Mega Handloom cluster covers 08 districts of Tamil Nadu State i.e. Trichy, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Karur, Dindigul, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur & Nagapattinam benefitting 25462 weavers. Financial assistance of Rs.20.17 crore has been released for distribution of 1162 HSS itmes for technological upgradation, setting up of 02 Dye Houses with ETP facilities one each at Karur & Jayankondam, 01 Souvenir Shop at Thanjavur and 22 Small handloom clusters. 06 Common Facility Centre have also been completed and functional at Thiruvidaimaruthur-I, Thiruppanandal, Ammapettai, Thathayankarpettai, Karur-I and Thoppampatty.

Besides, Government of India is also providing marketing platforms to handloom agencies/ weavers to sell their products directly to customers domestic and international level through participation in expos, e-commerce portal (https://www.indiahandmade.com), Dilli Haat etc under NHDP. Moreover, training for Skill development is also provided under SAMARTH scheme of Ministry of Textiles.
