Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to
state:
(a) whether the Government has prescribed the criteria, process and timeline for recognition of an e-sport under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025;
(b) if so, the manner in which such recognition interfaces with registration with the Online Gaming Authority of India under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 notified on 22 April 2026;
(c) the details of total number of e-sports titles and providers recognised or registered, as on date;
(d) whether a coordination mechanism has been established between the Ministry of Youth Affair and Sports and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology for this purpose; and
(e) if so, the details thereof ? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS [DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA]
(a) & (b): The National Sports Governance Act, 2025 has been enacted to provide for the development and promotion of sports, Page 1 of 2welfare measures for sportspersons, ethical practices based on basic universal principles of good governance, ethics and fair play of the Olympic and sports movement, the Olympic Charter, the Paralympic Charter, international best practices and established legal standards and to provide for the resolution of sports grievances and sports disputes in a unified, equitable and effective manner and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The select sections of the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 has already been notified on 31.12.2025 and 12.05.2026. Further, the National Sports Governance (National Sports Bodies) Rules, 2026 framed under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 has been notified on
12.01.2026. The said Rules lay down a statutory framework relating to governance standards, compliance requirements, ethical conduct, and institutional accountability within the sports ecosystem. The Copies of the Act, the Notification and Rules are available on the

https://yas.gov.in/en/sports/nsga-2025. Whereas the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming (PROG) Act, 2025 and the rules made thereunder provide the statutory framework relating to online gaming, including registration of e-sports with the Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI).
(c) At present, no e-sport has been registered under the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025.
(d) & (e): Under the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules, 1961, matters relating to online gaming are allocated to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, while e-Sports as part of multi-sports events are allocated to the Department of Sports.
The Online Gaming Authority of India constituted under the PROG Act, 2025 as an attached office of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and, inter-alia, has representation from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in accordance with the applicable provisions.
