Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment A New Beginning Built on Equality A Success Story under the Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme
Posted On: 21 OCT 2026 4:00PM by PIB Delhi The journey of a couple from Maharashtra demonstrates how timely support under the Governmentโs Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme can help couples begin their married life with greater confidence and stability.
An inter-caste marriage represents more than the union of two individuals; it reflects the values of equality, fraternity, mutual respect and social harmony.
After their marriage, the couple namely Mr Gaikwad and Ms More (Names Changed) faced financial challenges while establishing their household and planning for their future.
The expenses involved in setting up a new home and meeting everyday needs made it important for them to find support as they started this new phase of life.
A significant source of support came through the Inter-Caste Marriage Incentive Scheme implemented by the Government of Maharashtra through the Social Welfare Department.
The financial assistance provided under the scheme helped the couple purchase essential household items, meet daily needs and take initial steps towards financial security.
The assistance strengthened their confidence and encouraged them to work towards building a stable and self-reliant future together. For the couple, the support was not only helpful in meeting immediate household requirements but also provided reassurance as they established their family life. The scheme also reflects a broader commitment to promoting social inclusion by encouraging inter-caste marriages and fostering equality beyond caste-based barriers. By supporting eligible couples, the initiative seeks to strengthen social bonds, reduce caste- based discrimination and nurture a society founded on mutual understanding, dignity and respect.
Expressing their gratitude to the Government of Maharashtra and the Social Welfare Department, the couple acknowledged the positive impact of the assistance in helping them begin their married life with greater confidence. Their experience illustrates how targeted support can contribute to household stability while advancing the larger vision of an inclusive and harmonious society.
