NOTIFICATION The draft of the following rules to amend the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Conditions for Vehicles engaged in Transport of School Children) Rules, 2012 which the Government of Karnataka proposes to make in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (2) of section 96 read with section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, (Central Act 59 of 1988) is hereby published as required by sub-section (1) of section 212 of the said Act, for the information of all persons likely to be affected, and notice is hereby given the said draft will be taken into consideration after the expiry of thirty days from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Any objection or suggestion which may be received by the State Government from any person with respect to the said draft before the expiry of the period specified above will be considered by the State Government.

Objections and suggestions may be addressed to the Secretary to Government, Transport Department, Room No. 153, Ground Floor, MS Building, 3rd Gate, Bengaluru-560 001.

DRAFT RULES

1. Title and Commencement.- (1) These rules may be called the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Conditions for Vehicles engaged in Transport of School Children) (Amendment) Rules, 2024

(2) They shall come into force from the date of their final publication in the Official Gazette.

2. Insertion of new rule 4A.- In the Karnataka Motor Vehicles (Conditions for Vehicles engaged in Transport of School Children) Rules, 2012, after rule 4, the following shall be inserted, namely:- “4A. Registration of vehicle as school cab.- The Owner or Driver of the vehicle engaged in transportation of school children shall obtain a letter from the Head of the school or a letter from the parents which consists of the details mentioned in Annexure below and produce the same before the Registering Authority for Registration or alteration of the said vehicle as a school cab. The Committee referred in rule 4 shall hold meetings with drivers, parents to take action as per

rule 4 of these rules.
