EV Charging Infrastructure In Andhra Pradesh

1524. SHRI VIJAY CHINTAKAYALA:

Will the Minister of Heavy Industries be pleased to state:

(a) the current status of coordination between the Central Government and Government of Andhra Pradesh in identifying suitable sites, including along State and National Highways, for setting up public Electric Vehicle charging stations under schemes like PM e-DRIVE and FAME;

(b) whether the Ministry proposes any single-window clearance mechanism, State-Centre coordination platform, or dedicated nodal support to help Andhra Pradesh accelerate deployment of fast chargers under central schemes; and

(c) the steps being taken, or envisaged, to strengthen coordination with DISCOMs in Andhra Pradesh for grid preparedness to support the anticipated growth in electric vehicle charging demand in the State? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR HEAVY INDUSTRIES (SHRI BHUPATHIRAJU SRINIVASA VARMA)

(a): An allocation of Rs.2,000 crore has been made under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme for deployment of Electric Vehicle Public Charging Stations (EVPCS) on pan India basis including state of Andhra Pradesh. New & Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Ltd. (NREDCAP) has been identified as a nodal agency by Andhra Pradesh Govt. for deployment of EVPCS.

Furthermore, under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, MHI approved a proposal of Andhra Pradesh State Government for the deployment of 577 EV chargers with total approximate support of Rs.39.79 crore in accordance with the Scheme guidelines.

Under FAME-II scheme, an allocation of Rs.912.50 crore was made for setting up of EV public charging stations (EVPCS), out of which Rs.873.5 crore have been sanctioned to the three Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs), namely BPCL, IOCL and HPCL. Further, no state-wise allocation has been done under the FAME-II scheme. As per inputs received from 3 OMCs, under the FAME-II scheme, a total of 538 EV public charging stations (EVPCS) have been installed in Andhra Pradesh by 3 OMCs, of which 469 EVPCS are operational as on 01.07.2026.

(b): The PM E-DRIVE Scheme portal serves as a platform for State Nodal Agencies. Further, Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been designated as the Project Implementation Agency

(PIA) for deployment of EV public charging stations under the scheme.

(c): Electricity is a concurrent subject and power distribution is handled by distribution utilities under the State Governments. The respective distribution/transmission utility is responsible to take necessary measures to improve and augment their Sub-transmission and Distribution Infrastructure to support the anticipated growth in electric vehicle charging demand in its area of operation.
