2. उति िनगणना के जलए संिभ ातारीख 1 माच,ा 2027 के 00.00 बि े होगी, जसवाय—

(i) संघ राज्य क्षेत्र लद्दाख तथा संघ राज्य क्षेत्र िम्म ूऔर कश्मीर के जहमाच्छादित असमकाजलक क्षत्रे ों और जहमाचल प्रिेि तथा उत्तराखंड राज्यों के जहमाच्छादित असमकाजलक क्षेत्रों के जलए, जिनकी संिभ ा तारीख 1 अक्टूबर, 2026 के 00.00 बि े होगी;

NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 5th September, 2026 S.O. 4919(E).— In exercise of the powers conferred by section 3 of the Census Act, 1948 (37 of

1948), and in supersession of the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs (Office of Registrar General, India) number S.O. 2681(E), dated the 16th June, 2025 published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, section 3, sub-section (ii), dated the 16th June, 2025, except as respects things done or omitted to be done before such supersession, the Central Government hereby declares that a census of the population of India shall be taken during the year 2027.

2. The reference date for the said census shall be 00.00 hours of the 1st day of March, 2027, except for--

(i) the Union territory of Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir and the snow-bound non-synchronous areas of the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand which shall be 00:00 hours of the 1st day of October, 2026;

(ii) the States of Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and areas other than snow-bound areas of the State of Uttarakhand, which shall be 00:00 hours of the 5th day of January, 2027. [F.
