Mumbai : 8 September 2026 The 62nd APNIC Conference (APNIC 62), the flagship conference of the Asia Pacific Internet community, is being hosted by the National Internet Exchange of India

(NIXI) and co-hosted by the Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) in Mumbai from September 8 to 10, 2026. The event marks the return of the APNIC conference to India after 14 years.

A key development during APNIC 62 is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NIXI and the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre

(APNIC). The partnership will strengthen cooperation between the two organisations in Internet development, technical capacity building and community outreach.The event is being attended by senior government and Internet community leaders, including Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY); Dr. Devesh Tyagi, CEO, NIXI; and Kenny Huang, Chair, APNIC Executive Council.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Sushil Pal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), said, “India's digital journey needs strong and reliable Internet infrastructure. Hosting APNIC 62 in India is an important opportunity for our Internet community to connect with experts from across the region. The cooperation between NIXI and APNIC will further support India's technical capabilities and contribute to the continued growth of the Internet.” Dr. Devesh Tyagi, CEO, NIXI, stated, “APNIC 62 is a significant opportunity for India to engage with the wider Asia Pacific Internet community. The MoU with APNIC builds on this engagement through practical initiatives in areas such as IPv6, RPKI and technical training. Our focus is to create stronger local expertise and enable the Indian Internet community to participate more actively in regional technical development.” Jia Rong Low, Director General, APNIC, said, “India has already demonstrated global leadership in IPv6 adoption, and this partnership with NIXI marks an important next step in improving routing security and contributing to the overall security of India’s Internet ecosystem. Through this collaboration, APNIC and NIXI will work with network operators to adopt routing security technologies. We will do this through training and knowledge sharing that helps build local expertise and strengthens technical capability across India and the region.” Under the partnership, NIXI and APNIC will collaborate on IPv6 and RPKI adoption, Train-the-Trainer programmes, RPKI training and technical lab infrastructure. The organisations will also support the deployment of an RPKI Repository Mirror, which will improve access to routing security information and support more efficient network operations.

The partnership will further expand technical knowledge within India's Internet community. Through training and hands-on learning, the initiative aims to develop local expertise and strengthen the ability of network operators and technical professionals to address evolving Internet challenges.APNIC 62 brings together policymakers, government representatives, Internet infrastructure experts, network operators, technology leaders and other stakeholders from across the Asia Pacific region. The three-day conference provides a platform to discuss key issues shaping the Internet, including connectivity, artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, IPv6, routing security, Internet governance and emerging technologies.

The conference also reflects India's growing importance in the regional Internet community. With a large and rapidly expanding digital ecosystem, India has an important role to play in discussions on the future of Internet infrastructure, access and security.

APNIC 62 features technical sessions, tutorials, panel discussions and community- led discussions covering Internet operations, network security, infrastructure, policy and emerging technologies.

For NIXI, hosting APNIC 62 provides an opportunity to strengthen India's engagement with the regional Internet community and facilitate greater exchange of technical knowledge. The conference and the NIXI-APNIC partnership together underline the importance of continued collaboration in building an Internet that is open, secure, stable and resilient.
