be pleased to state:-
(a) the current operational status of Kolhapur Airport including passenger footfall, runway capacity and terminal infrastructure;
(b) whether any proposal to expand the said airport is under consideration of the Government and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government proposes to sanction new routes connecting Kolhapur to cities beyond Mumbai, Pune and Goa including Hyderabad, Delhi and Bengaluru under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS)-UDAN and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) the timeline fixed for upgrading Kolhapur Airport’s infrastructure to accommodate larger aircraft and increased flight frequency to meet growing passenger and cargo demand? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol)
(a) & (b): Kolhapur Airport is an operational airport. The runway can cater to Code 3C (ATR-72) type aircraft operations. The terminal building has a built-up area of 3,900 sq. m and can cater to 500 peak-hour passengers and 0.5 million passengers per annum. Kolhapur Airport has handled 1.60, 1.59 and 1.72 Lakh passengers during 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 respectively. Expansion and development of airports is carried out based on passenger demand, operational requirements and airline demand. Such development works are carried out in phases, subject to availability of land, financial viability and operational considerations.
(c) : At present, Kolhapur Airport has scheduled connectivity to Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Under the modified UDAN Scheme, Kolhapur is categorized as a Served Airport. Accordingly, routes connecting Kolhapur are not eligible for bidding under the forthcoming bidding rounds.(d): Upgradation of airport infrastructure depends upon various factors, including traffic demand, operational requirements, availability of statutory and mandatory clearances, financial viability and other project-specific requirements.
