3056. DR. D. PURANDESWARI Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:-
(a) the operational progress of regional flight routes connecting Rajahmundry Airport under the UDAN Scheme during the financial year 2025-2026;
(b) the total number of new unserved and underserved destinations linked to Rajahmundry Lok Sabha Constituency and the average passenger load factor recorded during the last one year;
(c) the total viability gap funding disbursed to commercial airlines operating these designated regional routes originating from East Godavari district;
(d) whether the Government has identified any constraints regarding runway length or Instrument Landing System (ILS) affecting round-the-clock operations at Rajahmundry Airport and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the measures being taken by the Government to upgrade air traffic control infrastructure to accommodate higher frequency of commercial flights at Rajahmundry Airport? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol)
(a) to (c): The UDAN scheme aims to enhance regional air connectivity from unserved and underserved airports in the country and making air travel affordable to the masses. As per the provisions of the UDAN Scheme, Rajahmundry Airport has been categorized as a Served Airport since the inception of the Scheme.
Under UDAN 3.0, the tourism RCS route Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam- Rajahmundry was operationalised on 15.09.2019 and remained operational up to
21.04.2023, during which Viability Gap Funding (VGF) amounting to Rs. 17.35 crore was disbursed.;(d) Rajahmundry Airport is a DGCA licensed 4C airport with a runway length of 3,165 metres and is suitable for round-the-clock operations. Installation of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) was completed on 26.05.2026.
(e) Expansion, modernisation and development of airport infrastructure is a continuous process, which is undertaken by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and other airport operators/developers based on passenger demand forecasts, commercial feasibility, operational requirements, demand from airlines and availability of land. Such development works are taken up in a phased manner.
