1980. SHRI VIJAY KUMAR HANSDAK Will the Minister of CIVIL AVIATION
be pleased to state:- a) the current status and the timeline fixed for the completion and publication of the final inquiry report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau into the crash of Air India (AI) 171 at Ahmedabad on June 12, 2025;
(b) whether the Government has taken note of conflicting theories regarding the “fuel switch cut-off” mechanism and if so, the details thereof including technical findings that have emerged from the analysis of the aircraft’s Black Boxes;
(c) whether the engines and main computer network components were sent abroad for technical evaluation and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether any critical safety data is currently being withheld by foreign manufacturers or entities and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) the response of the Government to safety concerns raised by aviation bodies and independent safety experts regarding potential electrical or systemic failures in early-model Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft? ANSWER Minister of State in the Ministry of CIVIL AVIATION (Shri Murlidhar Mohol)
(a): A preliminary investigation report has been published on 12 Jul 2025, and the interim statement was published on 12 June 2026 by Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), same are available on AAIB website.;

The investigation is under progress. All probable causes leading to the accident are being investigated. The final investigation report will be published after completion of the investigation.; ;
(b) to (d): The investigation is looking into all the aspects to identify the root cause and contributing factors leading to the accident.; ;
(e): Aircraft safety issues are addressed by the State of Design authorities alongside the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) via Airworthiness Directives (ADs) and ServiceBulletins (SBs). Operators must comply with all mandatory requirements under Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs). The Directorate General of Civil Aviation enforces compliance across Indian-registered aircraft through Airworthiness Review Certificate inspections, regular surveillance, and continuous oversight.;

In respect of early-model B787 issues, mandatory actions were executed-notably Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2013-12-08, which mandated enhanced lithium-ion battery containment and ventilation. Subsequent ADs and SBs for electrical, fuel, software, wiring, engine, and structural systems have been continually implemented and monitored to ensure fleet safety.
