Parliament Question: Scholarships and Fellowships at International Institutions

3590. SHRI RAMASAHAYAM RAGHURAM REDDY:

Will the Minister of EDUCATION be pleased to state:

(a) the details of Government scheme and programmes of scholarships and fellowships for students of higher education at international institutions;

(b) the total number of students benefitted by these scholarships and fellowships during the last three years;

(c) the total amount of funds allocated by the Government for this purpose;

(d) the criteria and process for selection of students under the scheme; and

(e) the steps taken by the Government to increase the availability of scholarships and fellowships and raise awareness about such opportunities among students? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION (DR. SUKANTA MAJUMDAR)

(a) to (c) The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Ministry of Tribal Affairs

(MTA) and Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology (DST) provide assistance to Indian students for higher education abroad. As per information received from the MSJE, MTA and ANRF-DST, in the last three years (2022-23, 2023-24 and 2024-25), the number of students benefitted by these scholarships and amount

allocated for them are as under:

(d) & (e) The eligibility criteria and process of selection for these scholarships can be accessed from the websites of the respective Ministry/Department, as given below:

The MTA disseminates information regarding the scheme by publishing in employment news, major newspapers, on Ministry’s website and social media platforms and coordinating with universities and State Governments.

The ANRF media cell is active through different social media platforms for raising awareness about the scheme.

Additionally, for foreign scholarships, wherein the role of the Ministry of Education is to either disseminate and/or nominate candidates on behalf of the donor country, the Ministry publishes Public Notice well in advance on the Ministry’s website.
