Will the Minister of AYUSH be pleased to state:
(a) whether it is a fact that there is a shortage of doctors and paramedical staff in the AYUSH system of medicine, if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of the personnel/authority responsible for identifying these shortages and undertaking recruitment;
(c) the reasons for the significant shortfall in treatment modalities, Yoga and preventive healthcare services;
(d) whether it is a fact that the shortcomings in the digital and referral system still leaves patient referral tracking, digital records and follow-up mechanisms deficient; and
(e) if so, the details thereof along with the steps being taken by the Government in this regard? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE (IC) OF THE MINISTRY OF AYUSH (SHRI PRATAPRAO JADHAV)
(a) to (c) As Public Health is a State subject, assessment of adequate number of doctors/ paramedical staff in the Ayush system of medicine and their recruitment comes under the purview of respective State/UT Governments. Total Registered Practitioners of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Sowa-Rigpa and Homoeopathy in the country State/ UT wise is furnished at Annexure. Ministry of Ayush has undertaken several initiatives to strengthen Ayush healthcare services across the country. These include the establishment and strengthening of 12 National Institutes including All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) and 05 Research Councils under the Ministry for promoting quality education, research and patient care. The Centrally Sponsored Scheme of the National Ayush Mission (NAM) is being implemented through the State/UT Governments to support their efforts in providing effective and equitable Ayush healthcare services by improving access to Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy. Yoga is further promoted through nationwide awareness campaigns, including the observance of the International Day of Yoga and initiatives of the Yoga Certification Board. Ayush medical education is also strengthened through the regulatory framework of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH), which prescribes minimum standards relating to teaching faculty, hospitals, infrastructure and other academic requirements to ensure the delivery of quality medical education and healthcare services.(d) and (e) The Ministry of Ayush, under the Ayush Grid initiative, has developed the Ayush Hospital Management Information System (AHMIS) for adoption across Ayush healthcare facilities. AHMIS is compliant with the national digital health ecosystem under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and facilitates patient registration, standardized diagnostics, clinical service delivery, and comprehensive health data management. The system also supports effective monitoring, reporting, and referral functionality.
