Will the Minister of CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD AND PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION be pleased
to state:
(a) the details of procurement centres, storage capacity and Fair Price Shops functioning in the districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh, district-wise;
(b) the quantity of wheat and paddy procured during the last three years, district-wise;
(c) the details of funds allocated and utilised for creation and modernisation of storage infrastructure in the region; and
(d) the steps being taken by the Government to augment scientific warehousing and improve procurement logistics in eastern Uttar Pradesh? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE FOR MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (SHRIMATI NIMUBEN JAYANTIBHAI BAMBHANIYA)
(a): Details of procurement centres for Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025โ26 and Rabi Marketing Season (RMS) 2026โ27, district-wise. in Eastern Uttar Pradesh and details of Fair Price Shops functioning in the districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh are placed at Annexure-I.
A total covered storage capacity of 65.74 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT), including owned and hired capacity, is available with Food Corporation of India (FCI) in Uttar Pradesh. Out of which 8.75 LMT steel silos are functional at 18 locations in the state.
(b): The district-wise details of wheat and paddy procured in Uttar Pradesh during the last three years are at Annexure-II.
(c) & (d): The Department of Food & Public Distribution (DFPD) under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution has taken following steps to augment and modernize scientific warehousing in the country including Uttar Pradesh
Smart Warehouse Project: Under this project, traditional depots are converted into smart warehouses which are equipped with different sensors like smoke sensors, fire sensors & gate opening sensor etc. for monitoring key parameters such as CO2, phosphine levels, fire hazards, humidity, unauthorized entry and temperature on real time basis.
Smart warehouse ensures real-time visibility, timely intervention, data-driven decision-making & standardized operations across all depots contributing to ensure safe, secure, and efficient food grain storage and distribution.Depot Darpan Portal: Depot Darpan Portal is a digital platform launched by DFPD to enhance the monitoring, transparency and efficiency offoodgrain storage depots & warehouses under PDS.
Key features and purpose of Depot Darpan: a. Depot/warehouse managers assess the infrastructure of their depots through uploading geo- tagged data regarding infrastructure and operations. b. Portal uses a composite scoring system, assessing depots on two broad categories:
infrastructure and operational parameters.
C. Based on the scores, depots are graded. d. Validation of data is built into the process via 100% supervisory officer verification. e. All the FCI's owned and hired warehouses are covered under Depot Darpan portal.
Silos-Scientific Storage of Foodgrains: Silo storage represents a highly mechanized and modern method of bulk foodgrains storage, ensuring superior preservation and enhanced shelf life. It requires only one-third of the land area compared to conventional storage methods, lowers transit and overhead costs such as those associated with gunny bags, reduces manpower requirements, and ensures consistent quality through scientific handling and storage practices.
The details of funds allocated and utilized for modernization of storage infrastructure in the region are at Annexure โ III #888+Statement referred to in the reply to Part (a) of Unstarred Question No. 2771 in the Lok Sabha on 05.08.2026.
