Ministry of Mines MEAI and IBM to jointly host Regional Workshop on AI Enabled-Mining Tenement System
Posted On: 04 SEP 2026 6:47PM by PIB Mumbai Nagpur, 4 September 2026 The Nagpur chapter of Mining Engineers’ Association of India (MEAI) in association with Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), a subordinate office under Ministry of Mines, Government of India would jointly organize a one-day Regional Workshop on “Approach of Transforming Data into Intelligent Governance through AI-enabled Mining Tenement System (MTS)” at Hotel Tuli International, Sadar, Nagpur on 5th September, 2026.
The MTS designed by IBM is positioned as an end-to-end digital system, leveraging the web- based ecosystem to process regulatory data covering entire life-cycle of mineral concessions.
The digital transformation has facilitated accountability through fully paperless workflow and supports initiatives like National Critical Mineral Mission – 2025.
The system has streamlined interaction among leaseholders, State Governments, IBM and other stakeholders enabling seamless online submission, processing and monitoring of statutory information.
The workshop would deliberate on furthering adoption of AI, Machine Learning, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Cloud Computing, Remote Sensing and Advanced Data Analytics to evolve the MTS into an intelligent decision-support platform. The objective is to automate compliance verification, identify anomalies in statutory submissions, strengthen mineral conservation, improve monitoring and optimize inspection and provide predictive insights for policy-making.
The officials from IBM, Department of Mining and Geology of State Governments, mining professionals, industry representatives, academicians and technology experts would attend and discuss MTS reforms and explore opportunities, challenges and future roadmap towards AI adoption and mutual collaboration in building an intelligent and integrated mining administration ecosystem.
Shri Pankaj Kulshrestha, Controller General, IBM will inaugurate the workshop as chief guest.
Shri D.B. Sundara Raman, National President, MEAI will be guest of honour. Dr. Y.G. Kale, Chief Controller of Mines (MDR) & Chairman of MEAI, Nagpur chapter and Shri V.J.K. Babu, Chief Controller of Mines (MES) will grace the occasion.
