Ministry of Health and Family Welfare National Institute of One Health, Nagpur organises ICMR-SHINE 2026 programme to inspire scientific temper among school students प्रव तथ: 14 AUG 2026 12:56PM by PIB Mumbai Nagpur, 12 August 2026 The National Institute of One Health (NIOH), Nagpur, successfully organised the ICMR-SHINE 2026 (Science, Health and Innovation for NextGen Explorers) programme at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vayusena Nagar, and Surendragarh Hindi Madhyamik Shala (SHMS), Nagpur, on 11 and 12 August 2026. More than 1,000 students from Classes IX to XII participated enthusiastically in the programme along with their teachers.

The programme was organised in line with the vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister to foster scientific temper, innovation, and research among the youth as key pillars of Viksit Bharat 2047. It aimed to nurture scientific curiosity among school students andintroduce them to the field of biomedical and health research.

In a special video message, Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Secretary, Department of Health Research and Director General, ICMR, encouraged students across the country to participate enthusiastically in the second edition of the ICMR-SHINE programme and explore opportunities in scientific research and innovation.

Addressing the gathering at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Vayusena Nagar, Dr. Pragya Yadav, Director-in-Charge, NIOH, Nagpur, encouraged students to develop a scientific outlook and interact with scientists. She also urged them to explore advanced research facilities, including the Mobile Biosafety Level-3 (mBSL-3) Laboratory, and understand the role of scientific research in disease prevention, diagnostics, pandemic preparedness, and public health.

Smt. Neelima Pathak, Vice-Principal, KV, VSN, and the Principal of SHMS appreciated the SHINE initiative for promoting scientific temper and encouraging students, especially those from underserved communities, to pursue science and health research.

The programme featured interactive sessions, including a virtual tour of the mBSL-3 laboratory, PPE demonstration, SUMAN handwashing technique, a health and science quiz, the One Health pledge, and career guidance on biomedical sciences by Dr. Nitin Vighne. Students also interacted with ICMR scientists and gained first- hand exposure to contemporary biomedical research.

The ICMR-SHINE National-Level Student Competition 2026 was also launched during the programme. Open to all school students until 11 September 2026, the competition invites innovative ideas to address real-world health challenges.
