Page 1 of 2Statement referred to in reply to parts (a) to (d) of Lok Sabha Starred Question No. *267 answered on 06.08.2026 regarding โCentral Assistance for the Godavari Water Grid Projectโ asked by Shri Tangella Uday Srinivas
(a) to (d) Since August 2019, Government of India, in partnership with States, is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)-Har Ghar Jal to enable every rural household including Andhra Pradesh, in the country to have assured potable water through tap connection. The Union Cabinet has approved extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission, with an enhanced outlay and a restructured reform in the rural drinking water supply sector under JJM 2.0.
Water is a State subject, and hence, the responsibility of planning, approval, implementation, operation, and maintenance of drinking water supply schemes, including those under the Jal Jeevan Mission, lies with the respective State/UT Governments. The Government of India supports the States by providing technical and financial assistance only.
At the start of the Mission, only 30.74 lakh (32.18%) rural households were reported to have tap water connection in the State of Andhra Pradesh. So far, as reported by the State, around
41.37 lakh additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections under JJM. Thus, as on 18.07.2026, out of 95.53 lakh rural households, around 72.11 lakh (75.48%) rural households have been provided tap water connection including Kakinada and other districts of the Godavari region.
As reported by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh, no separate proposal has been submitted by the State Government to this Department seeking additional financial assistance under the Jal Jeevan Mission for the Godavari Water Grid Project (Amarajeevi Jaldhara).
