Will the PRIME MINISTER be pleased to state:-
(a) whether in view of energy crises due to Middle East war situation, the Government has initiated any projects in the country to enhance generation of nuclear energy and if so, the details thereof;
(b) the details of sites planned for development of nuclear energy in the country and estimated period for completion of the said projects in various States;
(c) whether these projects are promoting the use of indigenous technology and local resources and if so, the details thereof;
(d) whether there is any concern expressed by the local populations about the safety of the proposed project and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government is implementing any new safety measures or guidelines to ensure the secure use of nuclear energy and if so, the details thereof? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES & PENSIONS AND PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR. JITENDRA SINGH)
(a) The Government has announced an ambitious Nuclear Energy Mission for Viksit Bharat with a target of reaching a nuclear power capacity of 100 GW by 2047. Nuclear Power Projects are having a Project/ Construction period of 10-12 years. No specific Nuclear Power Projects have been sanctioned after the Middle East conflict.
(b) & (c) The details of Nuclear Power Projects under various stages of implementation and those planned are tabulated in Annexure.
(d) & (e) There have been apprehensions in a section of the people at few sites, about safety of the site & plant, issues related to Rehabilitation, and fears of loss of traditional means of livelihood like fishing and horticulture. The apprehensions have been addressed through public awareness programmes adopting a multipronged approach in a credible manner. Highest priority is accorded to safety in all aspects of nuclear power viz. siting, design, construction, commissioning, and operation. Further, safety is not static and improvements/ upgrades are effected in nuclear power plants based on evolving global standards, events and operating experience feedback.Annexure Nuclear Power Projects under Construction/ Commissioning Location & State Project Capacity Expected Completion Date/ Indigeneous/

Gorakhpur, GHAVP 2 X 700 Completion of construction and Indigeneous Haryana 1&2 commissioning is expected to be completed in about 6 years from First Pour of Concrete.
