GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF MINES LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. †671 ANSWERED ON 22.07.2026 UTTAR PRADESH MINERAL MAP †671. SHRI RAMBHUAL NISHAD:
Will the Minister of MINES be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has completed the mineral map of the State of Uttar Pradesh;
(b) if so, the details thereof including the major mineral resources identified therein; and
(c) the details of the steps taken by the Government to promote sustainable and scientific mining practices in the said State? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR COAL AND MINES (SHRI SATISH CHANDRA DUBEY)
(a) and (b): Geological Survey of India (GSI) has published the mineral map of Uttar Pradesh on 1:2 million scale as Miscellaneous Publication No. 30, Part XIII: Geology and Mineral Resources of Uttar Pradesh.
GSI has established resources for minerals, including Iron ore, Andalusite, REE, Glauconite and Bauxite through systematic mineral exploration in Sonbhadra and Chandauli districts of Uttar Pradesh details of which are given at Annexure-I.
(c): The Government ensures scientific and sustainable mining in the country, including Uttar Pradesh, through a combination of policy framework, regulatory provisions, planning requirements, monitoring mechanisms, and performance evaluation systems. The Mineral Conservation and Development Rules (MCDR) 2017 mandate systematic mine planning, environmental safeguards, sustainable mining and compliance reporting wherein every mine holder must prepare a Mining Plan approved by the Indian Bureau of Mines, detailing extraction methods, conservation measures, and environmental protection strategies. The Star Rating of mines, mandated under MCDR 2017, evaluates mines on sustainability, safety, and compliance, incentivizing best practices.
