Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:

(a) whether the Government is aware of the Global Tuberculosis Report 2024, which states that India hadthe highest tuberculosis burdenin the year 2023contributing to 26 percent of global TB deaths, if so, the detailsthereof;

(b) the details of the allocation of funds for TB elimination in the country during each of the last five years, year-wise andState/UT-wise;

(c) the initiatives taken by the Government to address the issue of multi drug-resistant TB in the country; and

(d) whether the Government has been successful in the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for Tuberculosis to eliminate TB by 2025, if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE INTHE MINISTRYOFHEALTHAND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. ANUPRIYAPATEL)

(a) to (d) The Government has implemented National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM). As per World Health Organisation’s Global TB report 2024, it was estimated that India contributed to 26% of total TB deaths globally in 2023, however as per Global TB Report 2025, the proportion reduced to 25% in2024.

With the implementation of the National Strategic Plan for TB, as per the World Health Organization’s Global TB Report 2025 the country’s estimated TB incidence (per lakh population) has declined by21% from 237 inyear 2015 to 187in year 2024, almost twice the global decline (12%). Estimated TB mortality (per lakh population) declined by 25% from 28 in year 2015 to 21 in year 2024. The treatment coverage increased from 53% in 2015 to 92% in2024, which ledtoreductioninmissing cases from 15lakhstoless than1lakh.

Measures taken by the Government to address multi drug-resistant TB across the country are

asunder:  Early detection through intensified screening in OPD/IPD and community based active case findingcampaignwith focusonvulnerable populationandcongregatesettings  Provisionof free drugs anddiagnostics toTBpatients includingfor drug-resistant TB Universal Drug Susceptibility Testing (UDST) for all TB patients to detect drug-resistant TBthrough 11,296 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) laboratories at district & sub -district levels  Established a network of 108 Line Probe Assay, 74 Liquid Culture Testing Laboratories, 37 Intermediate Reference Laboratories and 6 National Reference Laboratories for diagnosis of drug resistance andqualityassurance  Fordecentralizedtreatment, 815Drug Resistant TBtreatmentcentresare established  Introduction of shorter, safer, all oral drug-resistant TBtreatment regimen, which includes BPaLM regimen (Bedaquiline, Pretomanid, Linezolid and Moxifloxacin) for management of drug- resistant TBcases  Intensified Information, Education & Communication (IEC) campaigns to reduce stigma, enhancecommunityawareness andimprove healthseeking behaviour  Track & monitornotifiedTBcases through Ni-kshay portal Under NHM, funds for NTEPare providedaspart of RCH FlexipooltoallState/UTs. Further, the detailsof allocation of funds for TBeliminationinthe countryduring last five years, year- wise andState/UT-wise, isplacedasAnnexure.
